About

I’m a security industry veteran and co-founder of Voxilate (makers of the HeyTell app) and Puzzling Plans, which I like to call the “carom board of software development.” We’ve developed apps like TVTimeWarp and Feldspar, and have expanded to writing books and web apps, too. Check out Steve’s 8bitworkshop and companion manuals to develop games for the Atari 2600, NES (!), VIC Dual, Midway 8080, Galaxian/Scramble Hardware, Atari Color Vector (Z80 chip), and Williams Z80 in your browser! I’ve also started developing Alexa apps for Puzzling Plans, and you can find them here.

I recently wrote a book designed to teach anyone how to install, secure, use, and monitor their own inexpensive, private VPN server in just a few minutes, and released some scripts on Github to speed the process.

My intention was to show how quick, easy, inexpensive, and fun it is to build and secure server software while teaching networking basics, like installing and configuring OpenVPN, installing and locking down Apache HTTP server, basic command line and Linux usage, and using intrusion detection software to monitor system security. I believe that Internet privacy and security is for everyone — and shouldn’t be kept out of anyone’s reach.

After I finished the book, I realized it was high time to resurrect the ol’ blog and get back to updating it on a regular basis, so stay tuned for more tips, tricks, and tutorials.
